The end of the line: Upminster


Upminster always sounded like an insult from the 70s to me (“Up your minster!”). So I was expecting something like this:

What I actually found was a lovely little high street.


Oh my God – cars!

There are two Costas. An M&S. A mysterious department store called Roomes. A Wimpy (when was the last time you saw one of those!?). It was all so civilised.


Turns out Upminster is a time machine to the 90s.

There were also many delightfully pun-filled shop names, my favourite of which was this fish and chip shop:
